Helping A Baby With a Hematoma

Being a new parent is filled with joy, but it can also come with unexpected challenges. For one mom, the birth of her third son brought a significant source of concern: a large hematoma on his head. The hematoma, about the size of a racquetball, was a constant source of worry. The mom was not only concerned about its potential impact on his development but also feared the judgment of others when they went out in public. She had searched online for answers, but the information was confusing and offered no clear path forward.

Her son also faced other challenges. Born in an occiput posterior position, he had significant neck tension and nervous system stress, making it difficult for him to turn his head. He had recently undergone a tongue-tie release procedure, but was still struggling with latching during breastfeeding, which led to fussiness, gas, and spitting up. He was waking up every two hours to feed, leaving his mom wanting longer stretches of sleep, a more content baby, and improved latch. Most of all, she wanted to make sure her son was on the right start to his life.

We created a care plan for him that was designed to address these interconnected issues. We focused on gentle adjustments to release nervous system stress and align his cranial bones. We also educated the mom on gentle massage techniques for his neck, ears, and armpits to stimulate lymphatic drainage. We discussed proper latching and tongue positioning to help with feeding and provided recommendations for postpartum exercises for the mom herself.

The results were remarkable. After just eight adjustments, the hematoma began to drain. By the tenth adjustment, in under a month, it was completely gone!

The mom's fears were replaced with joy as she watched her son thrive. The physical stress that the hematoma had been placing on his body was removed, and there is now zero evidence that it was ever there. These hematomas can sometimes take many months to drain and sometimes even harden and last longer.

This story is a powerful reminder that there are proactive steps that can be taken to help a baby with a hematoma.
